Fuel Filler Leak - EVAP error, difficult to refuel
2010 Ferrari 458
Engine Issue
Miles: 24,000 Date of First Occurrence (D/M/Y): 12/10/2019 DTC Codes (if any): P0442 Parts List:Fuel Filler Assembly - 319242 - https://www.ricambiamerica.com/319242-complete-fuel-filler-neck.html
Approximate Cost to Fix: $600Description of Issue:
I had been getting an occasional "Small EVAP leak" DTC code on my 458. I would clear the code and typically it wouldn't come back for quite a while. But it started getting more frequent. Then I was at a track day driving the 458 and my buddy took a picture of my car while making a hard left turn (with a full tank of gas) and fuel was clearly visible spilling out of the fuel door. I also was noticing that it was sometimes hard to put a fuel filler hose into the fuel filler neck in the car. It's almost like the little trap door was stuck on something and you would have to force the hose in the pry it loose.
Resolution if Known:
The fuel filler neck had to be replaced as an entire unit. I had to go in through the wheel house and disconnect the fuel filler neck from the fuel tank, the evap lines, and from the body of the car. Then I had to re-attach the new fuel filler assembly. It was not terribly difficult except the access to some of the parts was quite difficult due to space limitations. I documented this on my YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/YRpdMP7aWu0
